My guy was even still in the parlour with me when she came in. He read the room fast, gathered his things and gave us space. Still she kept her distance, sat far, and we gisted like two polite strangers. Then I excused myself to the bathroom, and Swēt, by the time I came back the whole 'nothing for you' energy had vanished. The belt was a bit loose. The shoes were off. She was stretched across my bed like the last few weeks had never happened, looking at me like the goodbye had changed its mind.
